Do you want to import your data into the Collabox, but you don’t know how to create a CSV file?
You will find here all the explanations to transform your database into a CSV file. But on board, what is a CSV file? It stands for Comma-Separated Values in English. It is an open, computerized format of text separated by commas. Thus, a tabular file like Excel can be turned into a full text file, ideal for importing data.
How to create a CSV file
There are several ways to save as CSV, but only two work when importing into Collabox.
NOTE: Technically, Excel allows to save in CSV format, but it is not very flexible, not allowing to choose the encoding of the file. This therefore makes the produced file incompatible when importing into Collabox.
Instructions for using LibreOffice
The first method is to use the free software LibreOffice. It is a software suite similar to Microsoft Office. Calc (LibreOffice) is the equivalent of Excel at Microsoft. The first step is to open your Excel file using this new software. Once it’s done, click on File … -> Save as…
In the window that appears on the screen, you will be able to choose the location where you want to save the file. In the small drop-down menu, choose the option “CSV Text (.csv)” and click “Save”.
The next step is to choose the options so that they are the same as the screen clip above. The field separator MUST be a semicolon. As for the text separator, the field must be empty. Once the options have been chosen, click on “OK”.
Instructions for using Numbers
This solution is only valid for Mac owners. Numbers is the equivalent of Excel, but on the Mac OS X platform.
First you need to open your Excel file with Numbers. Once this is done, click on File -> Export to -> CSV.
In the recording options you can choose the desired encoding. The one to select is “Western (ASCII)”.
You just have to do next to choose the location of the new file and you’re done.
